Kenyan Climber’s Dream Pogram – An Overview

July 7, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

James Kagambi (KG), founder and owner of KG Mountain Expeditions, is an accomplished international climber. He has regularly worked as a senior mountaineering instructor for NOLS mountaineering programs in Patagonia, Alaska, East Africa, Chile and India. In his home country of Kenya, KG has guided on Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro since the 1990s and today trains search and rescue teams.

KG’s dream is to create a training program for women in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to become porters and eventually guides for mountaineering expeditions on Kilimanjaro, Mt. Kenya and in the Rwenzori mountains in Uganda. These women have few employment opportunities in their communities and often end up in the local sex trade in order to survive and provide for their children. He has created a proposal to raise pledges of $80,000 to train and outfit a group of 15 women that would hopefully evolve into an ongoing training program. KG will give a presentation to discuss the project. Whether you are a climber, a women’s rights advocate, or a lover of Africa, this will be a creative, uplifting and innovative program.
