About

Educating girls can break the cycle of poverty in just one generation. Around the world, local leaders have culturally-relevant ideas to improve learning and retention particularly for girls, but often don't have access to needed funding and support. Social entrepreneurs need multi-disciplinary support, including how to tell their stories of impact.

We're combining our experience in funding and improving quality education programs with Girl Rising's storytelling and mass media expertise to fund promising ideas to create change on the ground. Our new venture philanthropy fund, Girl Rising-Global Education (GR-GEF),  invests in social entrepreneurs with culturally-relevant ideas. Our grantees are promoting gender equality and improving education quality for girls and boys living in poverty in Kenya and India.

A group of Global Education Fund's Board members are continuing as members of a key advisory committee for the GR-GEF Venture Philanthropy Fund. Eliza Woloson, GEF’s founder is serving on the GR board. And, others from GEF’s Board are serving on GR-GEF’s Investment Advisory Committee, including GEF Board chair, Meg Porfido, who is co-chairing the committee with Kate Isler, GR board member. GEF’s Executive Director, Kathy Bartlett, is now Co-Director of GR-GEF along with our Girl Rising colleague, Jill Miller, GR’s Program head.
