A Lecture by Dr. Roscoe Kasujja, Makerere University, Uganda on Uganda’s Open Border Policy

Come to this lecture to learn from a leading East African scholar. We’ll explore the impacts of Uganda’s open border policy, both on Ugandans and on the broader region. He’ll share more about the refugee crisis in East Africa, examine the impacts of refugees on Ugandans, exploring whether or not integration efforts are successful in Uganda or in neighboring countries. Dr. Kasujja will also look at the example of Rwandan policy with regard to refugees. Finally, he’ll discuss the relationship between politics and research, specifically with regard to forced migration in the region. He’ll leave time for Q&A and allowing participants to explore the nature of forced migration in the region and consider how it relates to development work in the region.

About the presenter: Dr. Kasujja is the Director of Mental Health at Makerere University’s School of Psychology and President of the Ugandan Clinical Psychology Association. As Chair of the Association of Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS)’ s Developing Nations Committee, Dr. Kasujja identifies opportunities for developing nation students in psychology for further study and to attend the association’s annual conference.
